Below is a short run-through of the steps needed to complete an partner integration with Klarna.
- 1. Partner
Partners are companies specialising in selling ready-made e-stores. Klarna has already integrated over 100 partners.
There are many different ways to integrate Klarna's payments services and therefore the functionality and interface to handle Klarna orders differs at each partner. That is why this guide is general and we recommend that you contact your partner and they will help you get started. - 2. Test purchase
Once you have an agreement with Klarna and your partner has activated Klarna, it's time to do a test purchase. We recommend using one of the test persons.
- 3. Login at Klarna Online
After you have done the test purchase in your store, login at Klarna Online with your user name and password you received in the introduction mail. After you have logged in, press “Search invoices” in the left menu, enter the invoice number and choose "Yes" next to “Display test invoices” in the options, press search. You should now see your test purchase. Does the amount of the purchase match exactly the order in your system?
- 4. Optimizing checkout
There are many ways to make a checkout and we have during our time in the business been trough over 8000 integrations. Some things we have picked up along the way that might help you to a better and more optimized checkout. We have shared this knowledge and you can read more about this in our appearance guide.
Since you use one of our partners you might be limited in your freedom of design. We still think it might be a good idea to go over the things in our checkout example. Maybe there is something to be learned or take with you, even if you can’t apply it directly to your e-store as it is today. - 5. Setup banners and logos
Many customers recognize our brand and services as a mark of safety - they know that they will always get the goods before they need to pay. To actively present our services early on in your site may also help to draw the attention of those customers who are used to pay by invoice. You can find more information and useful tips about this here.
Same exception as in the checkout step applies here too, some partners are flexible in what you can place and where. Some have already done this for you! - 6. Terms & Conditions
There are some things that are more of a necessity than others. Terms and Conditions is such a thing. In order to offer our services we need to present certain things to our mutual customers, many are required by law. To make this as easy as possible we have made a few simple tools to help implement this in your shop. Please find them here.
As before, some partners will already have set this up, with some you may have to do some configuring yourself. For more information on how to add the terms and conditions, please contact your partner. - 7. Invoice layout
Login at Klarna Online with your user name and password. In the main menu click the menu item "Display store" and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There you can insert your company logo and information about your company which will be shown in the invoice and then click save. Go back to the store page and click "Display test invoice" to see how your new invoice looks like.
- 8. Make Klarna default
Have you set Klarna as the default payment? Consider using Klarna as your pre-selected payment option. The simple reason is that most customers prefer receiving their goods first, and then pay by invoice. It’s been shown by several independent studies.
It’s required to use Klarna as default (pre-selected) payment options if it’s a part of your agreement with Klarna. - 9. Live!
Time for the fun part, taking your store live!
To do this, contact your integration sales contact, which you received in the e-mail with your user information. They will take your store out of test mode as soon as they have reviewed your store. Please note: Removing test mode will remove all test purchases already made. Finally, change the settings in the control panel of your store, this varies for all partners so contact your partner to make sure they have removed test mode for Klarnas services from their system.
You are now ready to do what you do best: handle your sales and let us at Klarna take care of the payments.
Good luck! - Integration and Merchant Support
